Low pensions, the elderly are still more secure with old age

Mạnh Cường |

Although the pension is low, many elderly people still think that they should try to pay social insurance to get a pension.

At the age of 63, despite receiving a starting pension of 3.1 million VND, Mr. Pham The Minh (Nam Dinh) still feels quite comfortable living with his wife.

"Eating frugally, not sick, not sick, the pension of 3.1 million VND is enough for both my wife and I to live a whole month" - Mr. Minh shared.

According to Mr. Minh, retirement pensions are much safer. Every day, the couple only need 70,000 VND to ensure their health because they can grow green vegetables at home. Mr. Minh used the remaining amount to pay for fresh milk, electricity and water, if there was any leftover, he would buy more clothes or other items.

If there is a common illness, according to Mr. Minh, there is no need to worry. Because when they retire and have health insurance, common diseases that only require diligence to go to infirmaries or hospitals to get medicine within the prescribed threshold of insurance will not cost more.

To maintain health and avoid serious illnesses, Mr. Minh said that he had to struggle to walk and exercise every day. In addition, he also carefully selects daily foods when using them.

Sharing more, Mr. Minh said that pensions will often increase every year, so people like him feel more secure in life.

"My family started receiving a pension of 3 million VND/month in 2019, now it has increased to 5 million VND/month. Hopefully, in the next few years, I will also receive this pension" - Mr. Minh said.

With a starting pension of VND2.6 million/month, Ms. Pham Thi Thom (60 years old, Thai Binh) said that spending well will be enough. Seeing people around her without pensions, she found that her previous decision was correct.

"Around me, there are many people of the same age, even older, who still work hard all month but only get a maximum of 3 million VND in salary. That is with the condition of going to work regularly, if I have a day off, I will lose my salary that day" - Ms. Thom said.

Ms. Thom believes that when you are old, even if your pension is low, you will be much less worried, because you still have income without having to work. Life is always guaranteed, no need to worry too much about children.

Sharing more specifically, Ms. Thom said that if there is no pension, old people have to work every day, and their health will decline as quickly as possible. With a pension, if she wants to improve her life, she only needs to do light work or work a few days a month to be able to live more freely.

In addition, Ms. Thom also advised young people not to withdraw social insurance at one time to deposit savings because the interest is quite low.

"Workers should also try to pay 15 years of social insurance. If you have missed a one-time social insurance withdrawal, you should still return to participate in voluntary social insurance to receive a pension" - Ms. Thom expressed.

From July 1, 2024, the basic salary is 2,340,000 VND/month. Thus, the current basic salary is 2,340,000 VND/month. Accordingly, the lowest pension today is 2,340,000 VND/month.

According to the provisions of the Law on Social Insurance 2024, from July 1, employees who have paid social insurance for 15 years will receive a pension instead of having to pay for 20 years as currently prescribed.

The 2024 Social Insurance Law creates opportunities for late or inconsistent participants to have the opportunity to contribute for 15 years to receive a monthly pension instead of having to receive one-time social insurance.
