Factors that workers care about most when choosing a workplace

According to the survey of job seekers at the beginning of the year, most people prioritize companies with good salaries, benefits and suitable working hours.

Ms. Pham Thi Phuong (42 years old) - a goods inspection worker in Thai Binh - shared that during the year she decided to quit her job and will quit her job at the end of February 2025. The reason for Ms. Phuong's resignation was that she spent too much time working at the company.

"The inspection department like us at the old company always had to work until 8:30 pm, and only had one day off a month, Sunday," Ms. Phuong shared.

Ms. Phuong said that choosing the job of inventory inspector means having to work more hours than other departments. However, working at her current company makes her feel tired, leaving her no time for family and other relationships.

Before deciding to quit her job, Ms. Phuong researched many companies in the area. According to the female worker, the work of checking goods at many companies also works on Sundays but only works a maximum of 2 days/month and can also leave early at 7:30 pm.

"In the near future, I will prioritize companies that have 2 or more Sundays off, and work until 8:00 p.m. at the latest," said Ms. Phuong.

Not only does the work time come late, according to Ms. Phuong, the company also makes it difficult for her to take personal leave, requiring 3 days notice and complicated procedures. When moving to a new place, female workers will prioritize companies that do not make it too difficult to ask for leave.

For Ms. Pham Thi Mai (29 years old) - a leather shoe worker in Nam Dinh, the criterion of a higher basic salary is the top concern when choosing a workplace. It is known that the basic salary of female workers at the old company was only 4.1 million VND/month.

Ms. Mai shared that she has been working at this company for nearly 3 years, and her basic salary has only increased by more than 400,000 VND after 2 adjustments. According to the female worker, with the method of paying salary based on working time, the low basic salary has a significant impact on income and other benefits.

“Almost every year there are 1 to 2 months with little work. At that time, I only receive a basic salary and some allowances, my salary is less than 6 million VND/month,” said Ms. Mai.

High basic salary helps increase income significantly. Because basic salary not only ensures good income when working office hours but also is the basis for increasing overtime pay during the day.

“Currently, even with 2.5 hours of overtime per day, I only get 8 million VND per month. My sister’s basic salary is 5 million VND, the overtime hours are the same but she still gets 9 million VND every month,” said Ms. Mai.

In addition, Ms. Mai shared that the company's current benefits for holidays, diligence, gas, and children are quite low compared to the general level. Ms. Mai wants to choose companies with better benefits to prioritize working.

According to Ms. Mai, only some major holidays such as April 30 - May 1, September 2 and Lunar New Year are rewarded, other holidays are not. The bonus for diligently working enough is only 300,000 VND. The fuel allowance is also quite low, only 130,000 VND, every month she has to pay for gas to go to work.

“When I move to a new workplace, I will prioritize companies that offer a bonus of 500,000 VND or more for diligence, fuel allowance of over 250,000 VND, as well as early leave to take care of my children and bonuses for all holidays, no matter how big or small,” Ms. Mai shared her wishes.
