Dozens of taxi drivers and employees who have worked and are working at Mai Linh Nha Trang Company Limited are owed wages and social insurance. In the document committing to a debt repayment schedule sent to all levels, this company proposed to pay 7/31 employees who have complained in the first quarter of 2025.

Financial difficulties, unable to pay at once

On January 19, the leader of Khanh Hoa Provincial Federation of Labor informed that Mai Linh Nha Trang Company Limited (referred to as Mai Linh Nha Trang) has just sent a document to Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Department of Transport, Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, Provincial Social Insurance, Provincial Federation of Labor regarding the payment of outstanding social insurance debts and salaries of employees.

According to the explanation of Mr. Tran Nhat Anh - Director of the company, regarding the social insurance debt under the legal entity of Mai Linh Group Joint Stock Company Branch in Nha Trang, the unit has tried to pay the outstanding debt. In August 2024, the unit paid for 11 employees who had quit their jobs to close the social insurance books and settle the debt with an amount of 440 million VND. However, due to the impact of the epidemic, fierce competition between taxi companies, the company's financial situation was difficult, leading to the payment of the social insurance debt not being as planned. Based on the decision to request payment of old debts of Mai Linh Nha Trang unit for many objective reasons, the company is currently facing many difficulties and is unable to make a one-time payment.

As of November 2024, this company owes from 1 to 11 months of salary to more than 100 employees with an amount of 2 billion VND; owes social insurance to employees from 2020 to present 6 billion VND. Of which, the debt of the old legal entity is more than 5.5 billion VND, the debt of the new legal entity is nearly 500 million VND. The prolonged debt of salary and social insurance not only makes the lives of employees working here difficult. Many employees are also upset because when they quit their jobs, the company did not close their social insurance books, leading to many people losing their right to unemployment insurance benefits.

Continue to request debt extension

According to the debt repayment plan that Mai Linh Nha Trang proposed to the authorities of Khanh Hoa province on January 14, the company representative committed to a roadmap for paying outstanding social insurance debts to close social insurance books and salaries for laid-off employees in the first and second quarters of 2025.

In particular, the company committed to paying social insurance to close the book and pay salaries for 7 employees according to the list according to the working minutes on January 3 in the first quarter of 2025. The remaining list of 31 cases of employee complaints, the unit committed to pay according to the schedule before June 30. The leaders of this enterprise also hope that the authorities will consider creating favorable conditions, supporting Mai Linh Nha Trang to overcome difficulties, continue to promote business activities, contribute to socio-economic development, create stable jobs for employees.

However, according to some workers who are owed social insurance, this commitment may cause them to lose their right to receive unemployment insurance benefits. Mr. Pham Tien, who is owed 67 million VND in social insurance, said indignantly, "February 6 is the last day for me to receive unemployment insurance according to regulations. With this commitment, I don't know if the company will pay us on time or not? I am waiting for this source of support while I have not found a new job yet."

Previously, at a three-way dialogue between employees, businesses and authorities, business representatives committed to finalizing social insurance payments under the new legal entity before January 24 and committed to paying at least 50% of salaries before January 24 and paying the remaining 50% before March 30 for all employees.

Sharing with the union members, the Khanh Hoa Transport Industry Union visited and presented Tet gifts, each worth 1 million VND, to support 2 union members of Mai Linh Nha Trang Company Limited who are in very difficult circumstances and are owed 2 to 4 months of salary by the company.
