At the end of 2023, the City People's Committee submitted a document asking for the City People's Council's opinion on the plan to use state budget capital to develop housing in the period of 2021-2025. In particular, it proposed to renovate and repair the Hoa Cam Industrial Park Workers' Housing.
Accordingly, renovating 3 blocks of 5-storey buildings, adding elevators and parking lots for 3 blocks. The total investment is 20.07 billion VND from the State budget, the implementation period is in the period of 2023-2025.
Therefore, by 2025, after completing the renovation and repair, the Hoa Cam Industrial Park Workers' Housing Project will continue to welcome workers to live, ensuring accommodation for workers according to the set goals.
However, for many years now, dozens of worker households with 4 to 5 members have had to live in rooms of just over 16 square meters. Many families, due to lack of space, have had to send their children back to the countryside for their grandparents to take care of.
Like the family of Ms. Huynh Thi Phuc - a worker at Hoa Cam Industrial Park - who is living on the 2nd floor of the workers' housing area in Da Nang City. Ms. Phuc's family has 4 members, her two children are grown up but still have to live in a 19m2 room. Out of options, Ms. Phuc had to ask someone to design a bunk bed for nearly 3 million VND for the family to sleep.
The function of the small worker housing area is like that, but most workers do not want to move. Because the rent here is very cheap, only about 500,000 VND/3 months, so the workers can save on monthly living expenses.
Not as lucky as Ms. Phuc to choose a 19m2 room, the room of Ms. Nguyen Thi My (28 years old) and her husband - a worker at Hoa Cam Industrial Park - is only 16m2. Meanwhile, Ms. My and her husband have 3 children.
From the entrance is a kitchen area of about 1m2, opposite the kitchen is the bathroom, at the end of the room is the balcony for drying clothes. The remaining 12m2 is empty, which is both a place to eat, a place for the children to play and a place for the whole family to sleep. Ms. My's room has no furniture except for a wardrobe, a refrigerator... the rest of the area is used as a play space for the children.
More than anyone else, Ms. My hopes that the rooms will soon be renovated to increase their usable area.
According to the manager of the workers’ housing area, block 1 currently has 74 rooms for rent, including adults and dozens of children of workers. The rooms are very small, only suitable for single workers.
However, due to not having enough money to cover expenses, up to now, workers' families still have to try to live in an area of less than 20 square meters to maintain their lives.
