Mekong Delta workers seek job opportunities in their hometowns

LĨNH NAM |

The pressure of living expenses and the desire to be close to family makes many Western workers choose to return to their hometowns to find jobs and stabilize their lives for a long time.

Cost of living pressure

Leaving his hometown in Nhon Hoi commune (An Giang province) to go to the Southeast region to work as a mechanical worker for 4 years, Mr. Duong Anh Phat deeply understands every hidden corner of life in a foreign land. The urban environment is bustling but harsh, living expenses and rent are constantly increasing, while income and preferential treatment are quite limited.

Mr. Phat sadly shared: "Many times working for a whole month, after receiving salary, after deducting rent, food, electricity and water, there is not much left. Especially when I am sick or the company has no orders, staying in the city makes me always worried.

From about a year ago, Mr. Phat nurtured the intention to return to his hometown to find a suitable job. Then on the National Day holidays of September 2nd, casting nets on the river with his father, breathing the cool air of the Mekong Delta, the male worker felt his soul truly relaxed.

It's really been a long time since I found that peaceful feeling again," Mr. Phat said.

Similarly, Mr. Nguyen Van Thai (Can Tho City), a former student of Can Tho University, also had a period of starting a business in Ho Chi Minh City but encountered many obstacles.

Although he learned professional demeanor and a dynamic rhythm of life, Mr. Thai is still tired of traffic jams and rushed meals. Returning to his hometown for holidays, being able to reunite with his family and meet friends makes him realize that he has forgotten many simple values.

Development orientation in the homeland

When sharing his immediate orientation, Mr. Phat plans to apply for a delivery worker or apply to work at companies in the province with an expected income of about 6-7 million VND/month.

The salary in the countryside is not as high as in the city, but in return, the cost is low, and most importantly, I am close to my parents. I also try to work to get married soon, stabilize my life, and I don't want my children to have to be away from home like me later" - Mr. Phat confided.

Meanwhile, Mr. Thai believes that the prosperous development of industrial parks in Can Tho as well as the demand for human resources in the information technology industry in the locality are opening up many new opportunities. After the holidays, Mr. Thai spends a few weeks resting before starting to apply to media and graphic companies in Can Tho, and at the same time develops freelance photography to increase income.

I just hope the upcoming work will be smooth, and by Tet I will have a good income to take care of my family, and no longer have the scene of every holiday and Tet feeling heartbroken to see parents anxiously waiting for their child away from home. I believe that is also the common aspiration of so many workers when deciding to close the journey of leaving home" - Mr. Thai confided.
