According to Official Dispatch 9859/VPCP-KGVX in 2025, the Prime Minister agreed with the proposal of the Ministry of Home Affairs in Official Dispatch 8764/BNV-CVL on the Lunar New Year holiday and National Day holiday in 2026.
Implementing the Prime Minister's direction, the Minister of Home Affairs issued Notice 9441/TB-BNV implementing the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday schedule as follows:
For employees who are not subject to the provisions of Clause 1 of this Notice, the employer decides to choose the option of Lunar New Year holiday, National Day holiday in 2026 as follows:
- Lunar New Year holiday: Choose 1 day off at the end of the year At Ty and 4 days at the beginning of the year Binh Ngo or 2 days at the end of the year At Ty and 3 days at the beginning of the year Binh Ngo or 3 days at the end of the year At Ty and 2 days at the beginning of the year Binh Ngo.
Thus, for employees working in the private sector, employers decide to choose the Lunar New Year holiday option according to the following plan:
Option 1: 1 day at the end of the year At Ty and 4 days at the beginning of the year Binh Ngo (i.e., holiday from February 16 to the end of February 2026).
Option 2: 2 last days of the year At Ty and 3 first days of the year Binh Ngo (ie, holidays from February 15th to the end of February 19th, 2026).
Option 3: 3 last days of the year At Ty and 2 first days of the year Binh Ngo (ie, holidays from February 14th to the end of February 18th, 2026).
The Ministry of Home Affairs encourages employers to apply the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday for employees as prescribed for civil servants and public employees; encourages agreements that are more beneficial to employees.
Thus, depending on the Lunar New Year holiday option chosen by the employer, the worker's return to work schedule will be flexible accordingly.
