On the afternoon of September 13, Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee Phan Van Cuong chaired a local working session with the Board of Directors of Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company to resolve the existing problems, shortcomings, and difficulties that have caused Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant to temporarily suspend operations (Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company is the unit operating Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant).
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee Phan Van Cuong emphasized that the temporary suspension of Bao Loc Waste Treatment Plant has affected the city's waste collection and treatment and poses a potential risk of waste accumulation affecting the general environment.
According to Mr. Phan Van Cuong, recently, Bao Loc city has accepted and paid in full and on time the monthly waste treatment fee to the Company.
However, recently, the city government and functional agencies have received a petition from a group of workers that Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company is owing them salaries from December 2023 to July 2024, with a total amount of more than 1.7 billion VND. A representative of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bao Loc city emphasized that the fact that Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company is owing wages and social insurance to its employees is a violation of labor laws.
Through understanding, workers said they are willing to return to work when they are paid their salaries and benefits according to regulations. Mr. Le Dinh Trong - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company said that recently, the Company has contracted Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Long to hold the position of Executive Director of the Waste Treatment Plant.
Due to some internal reasons between the Company and the contractor, the current shortcomings and problems have occurred. The most important of which is the debt of wages and social insurance of employees; at the same time, it has led to the deterioration and damage of some of the Factory's facilities and equipment.
Currently, the Company is calculating and balancing to pay salaries and social insurance premiums owed to employees. The Company also requested the People's Committee of Bao Loc City to consult with competent authorities to soon reach a conclusion and agree on the unit price for waste treatment because the low unit price for waste treatment is causing difficulties for the Company. After this working session, the Company will focus on overcoming difficulties and shortcomings to put the Factory back into operation for waste treatment no later than September 16.
Must ensure the legitimate rights and interests of workers
Concluding the meeting, Mr. Phan Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of Bao Loc City People's Committee, requested that Fiendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company fulfill its commitment to soon resume operation of the Factory on September 16.
During the suspension of operations, the Company must still ensure the reception and storage of waste so that waste does not accumulate in residential areas. When resuming operations, the Company must strictly implement regulations to ensure the rights and legitimate interests of employees; comply with regulations on labor contracts and labor protection for workers according to current regulations.
For the salary amount of more than 1.7 billion VND that the employees are owed, the Company must pay it off in September 2024. In case the Company fails to pay the debt, causing lawsuits and complaints, the People's Committee of Bao Loc City will take measures to direct the relevant agencies to consider protecting the rights of the employees.
"In addition, Bao Loc City People's Committee will also direct competent agencies to handle and clarify the responsibility of Fiendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company according to regulations," Mr. Phan Van Cuong affirmed.
