Strong female workers
At the end of June 2024, we contacted Ms. Huynh Thi Hong Nghi (Fish Repair Department, CADOVIMEX II Seafood Processing and Import-Export Company) with the intention of acknowledging her concerns about keeping her children every summer. Who would have thought that the story of Ms. Nghi's situation would torment us.
The female worker shared that the day her husband passed away due to serious illness was also the time she lost her life's support, and her twin sons were left alone and no longer received their father's guidance. So, she had to try to overcome it, being both a mother and a father to take care of her children's education.
"My husband was sick and passed away early. I worked hard to earn money to take care of my children, both physically and mentally. The burden was on my shoulders, but I never dared to complain or tell my children. I was forced to I have to sell my health, hoping to get better, my child's future is open," Ms. Nghi confided.
Normally, Ms. Nghi works the day shift so that she can come home for dinner in the evening and instruct her children on homework. However, every time a neighbor helps take care of her child, she will proactively sign up to work the evening shift to earn more money.
"Sometimes it's fun, I come home from work tired but still spend the night with my children repairing toys, repairing bicycles, changing water pipes...", Ms. Nghi said with a smile.
Working at the same company, Ms. Le Thi Lan Huong (Dong Thap province) took on the role of mother and father to take care of her two sons since her husband passed away early in a traffic accident. When we asked her about her intention to send her child back home to ease the burden, Ms. Huong said sadly: "Sending is fine, but I feel sorry for my elderly parents with poor health, and I miss my child most of all."
Regarding work, Ms. Huong is currently working in the quality management department with a stable salary. However, because she thinks about the future, she strives a lot. "My eldest grandchild is about to enter high school, the extra tuition and shopping costs will increase a lot. Maybe I will consider finding a part-time job to do part-time work at home in the evenings," Ms. Huong said.
