The pain and unfinished dreams after the accident that killed 5 people at Dabaco Thanh Hoa

The new house is only in the plan

Two days after the particularly serious accident at the pig farm of Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd., the house of Mr. Bui Van Ve (born in 1989, residing in Quang Thanh village, Dien Quang commune) is still crowded with people coming to offer condolences.

The house is built of bamboo and rattan, earthen floors and almost has no valuable assets. In a cramped space, Ms. Nguyen Thi Le - Mr. Ve's wife - both takes care of her husband's funeral and takes care of her three young children.

Mr. Ve was born into a family of 5 siblings. When they got married, his parents gave him and his wife a piece of land next to the house to build a residence. The income from the fields and unstable hired work made the family's life difficult for many years, belonging to the near-poor household category.

About a year ago, Mr. Ve and his wife sent their children to their grandparents to take care of, and together applied to work at the farm of Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd. in Thach Quang commune, more than 40km from home.

Mr. Ve is in charge of electrical and mechanical repair work, while his wife works in the livestock area. The couple is allocated a room in the farm, intending to work for a long time to pay off debts and save up to build a more solid house.

According to Ms. Le, the family plans to repair and rebuild the house next year so that their children no longer have to live in rain and wind. However, that plan had to painfully stop after the accident on the afternoon of July 18.

On the day of the incident, after work, Ms. Le returned to her room but did not see her husband. Because Mr. Ve often had to handle technical problems, she thought her husband had not finished his work, so she waited for him to come home for dinner.

After that, hearing the news that a worker had an accident in the waste treatment tank area, she ran to the scene. She recognized her husband when he was brought out of the tank in a state of unconsciousness. Although he received first aid and was transferred to the hospital, Mr. Ve did not survive.

The sudden passing of her husband forced Ms. Le to take care of her three young children alone while the family's economic conditions were already difficult.

The promise to return on father's death anniversary

Not far from Mr. Ve's house is the family of Mr. Truong Van Lam (Quang Thanh village, Dien Quang commune, born in 1991), one of the victims who died in the same incident.

Mr. Lam's family's house has deteriorated. Inside, the elderly mother, young wife and two young children are facing a large gap when the main breadwinner is no longer there.

Mr. Lam is the second child in a family of three sisters. After many years of working as a hired laborer in the southern provinces, in mid-2025, he returned to his hometown and applied to work at the farm of Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd.

Mr. Lam's father died of a serious illness nearly a year ago. His mother is often sick, suffering from kidney failure and diabetes. With two young children, he encouraged his wife to stay home to farm, take care of her mother and children, and he takes on most of the living expenses.

Ms. Truong Thi Thuy - Mr. Lam's wife - said that her husband's monthly income is about 7-8 million VND. This money is used to buy medicine for his mother, raise children to study and cover family life.

Before the accident, Mr. Lam called home and said he would take leave next week to attend his father's first death anniversary. He also planned to advance his salary and take a child to the hospital for treatment.

That was also the last conversation between the two spouses.

In the afternoon of July 18, after returning from working in the fields, Ms. Thuy received a phone call from her older brother and his wife who were working on the same farm. Initially, relatives only informed that Mr. Lam had an accident and was taken to the hospital because they were worried that she would not be able to bear the shock.

When she arrived at Cam Thuy General Hospital, Ms. Thuy was informed that her husband had died. Her older brother also had an accident and had to be treated.

Mr. Trinh Van Dung - Chairman of Dien Quang Commune People's Committee - said that the locality had 3 deaths and one injury in the accident. The victims are related, including two families who are near-poor households, in particularly difficult circumstances.

After the incident occurred, local authorities visited, encouraged and supported each family with a deceased person with 10 million VND.

Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, at about 5:30 pm on July 18, a particularly serious labor accident occurred at the pig farm of Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd., located in Truong Giang village, Thach Quang commune. The accident killed 5 people and injured 2 others.

On July 19, Dabaco Thanh Hoa Co., Ltd. brought 6 more workers who were present near the incident area to the hospital for health check-ups and rehabilitation treatment at Bach Mai Hospital, Ninh Binh facility.

Immediately after the incident, leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Thanh Hoa Provincial Confederation of Labor, leaders of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee and departments, branches, and local authorities were present at the scene, directing rescue, overcoming consequences, visiting families of victims and investigating the cause.
