Ms. Mai is one of the first generations of workers of the unit. For more than two decades, she and her colleagues have quietly worked on the roads, witnessing the daily changes of Yen Bai mountain town.
Her work starts very early, around 4 am when many people are still fast asleep. She sweeps and collects domestic waste so that when dawn comes, the roads are clean and clear.
In the afternoon, after people finish a working day, she starts her second shift, from about 5 pm to 8 pm. It sounds simple, but the work of environmental workers has never been easy. Every day, Ms. Mai and her colleagues have to walk and push carts to collect tons of garbage from households, restaurants, and hotels. The work is heavy and depends heavily on the weather, sometimes cold and rainy, sometimes hot and sunny.
Not only diligent in labor, Ms. Mai also actively researches and proposes initiatives to improve work efficiency.
In 2023, she proposed the initiative "How to arrange garbage collection vehicles after sorting at collection points", helping the management and operation unit of the electric vehicle team shorten the travel routes between collection points, saving time and reducing labor costs for workers.
Next, in 2024, she continued to launch the initiative "Improving the quality of environmental sanitation work through monitoring and evaluating the quality of environmental sanitation on the streets of the neighborhood group leader". The initiative was applied by the company's leaders and received many positive feedbacks from the people.
Through collecting community feedback, the unit has an additional information channel to receive feedback on environmental sanitation quality, workers' service attitudes, thereby proposing solutions to improve the efficiency of waste collection and treatment.
Thanks to continuous efforts, for many consecutive years Ms. Mai has achieved the titles "Advanced Laborer", "Good at state affairs, good at housework"; and has been awarded certificates of merit by the Provincial People's Committee and the Lao Cai Provincial Labor Federation. The company and grassroots trade union have also awarded certificates of merit to her many times for outstanding achievements in professional work and trade union activities.
