Hoping for a salary increase soon
Mr. Nguyen Thai Hoa and his wife, 32 years old, are workers at Truong Giang Seafood Joint Stock Company, located in Sa Dec Industrial Park (Sa Dec City, Dong Thap Province). Despite having a stable income, like many colleagues at the company, recently the life of the couple's family has often encountered difficulties.
According to Mr. Hoa, with a total average income of 12-13 million VND/month, it was enough to cover the expenses of a family of three, including a husband and a young child in high school. But recently, when the prices of many essential goods have increased, family life has been somewhat difficult.
We are trying to work overtime to make up for the price spike. But it is not always the case to work overtime continuously, so usually at the end of the month, we have difficulties - Mr. Hoa shared.
This is also a problem that many union members and workers in industrial parks in Dong Thap and many localities in the Mekong Delta have encountered. The increase in prices of many daily necessities has affected many social classes, especially the labor force and laborers with "poor" income. Therefore, like many colleagues, Mr. Hoa hopes that the State will soon realize the proposal to increase the regional minimum wage proposed by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
Union officials agree and support
"It is true that recently the lives of the majority of union members, workers and laborers in industrial parks in the province have encountered many difficulties" - Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nhan - Chairman of the Dong Thap Industrial Parks Trade Union affirmed. According to Mr. Nhan, the lives of workers, especially those who are married and have young children, are currently unbalanced when the income level does not increase enough to cover expenses.
"The prices of essential goods are increasing, but the salary has not kept up. In some places, workers have even declined due to unstable production companies, leading to reduced working hours, working days... causing many workers' families to face difficulties" - Mr. Nhan added.
With the current increase in market prices, many families of workers are struggling to take care of every meal. Because people spend money on daily life, they also have to pay for rent...
However, according to Mr. Nhan, the more worrying thing here is not only the decrease in spending ability to ensure minimum needs for food and living in the family, but also the impact on savings for the future.
Grasping this situation, in recent times, the Trade Unions of Dong Thap industrial parks and economic zones have maximized the resources of the Trade Union and socialized to increase care in many forms: giving gifts, free medical examinations, establishing a Club to care for pregnant women, raising young children, etc., but these efforts have only helped workers solve a small part...
Therefore, more than ever, we really hope that the adjustment of the regional minimum wage will be implemented soon so that workers can reduce the pressure in daily life - Mr. Nhan strongly suggested.
