This information was released by Deputy Director of the Department of Employment (Ministry of Home Affairs) Chu Thi Hanh at a press conference to inform about the Action Month on Occupational Safety and Health in 2026 and information on the situation of labor accidents in 2025.
The number of workplace accidents decreased by 1,282 cases, equivalent to a decrease of 15.47% compared to 2024. The number of victims also decreased by 1,316 people, equivalent to 15.53%. The number of deaths from workplace accidents is 658 people (down 69 people), equivalent to an average of nearly 1.8 cases per day.
In the area with labor relations, the number of fatal labor accidents was 475 cases, a decrease of 60 cases compared to the previous year. The number of deaths was 508 people, a decrease of 76 people.
However, in the area where workers work without labor contracts, the number of fatal labor accidents has increased, with 146 cases, causing 150 deaths.
Damage from workplace accidents also decreased sharply. Total related costs, including treatment costs, compensation and other costs, are estimated at over 14,000 billion VND, much lower than the level of over 42,000 billion VND in 2024.
Although the number of workplace accidents and deaths both decreased, the report shows that the situation still contains many risks, especially in some labor groups and production sectors.
The number of people seriously injured in labor accidents in 2025 is 1,779 people, an increase of 89 people, equivalent to an increase of 5.27% compared to the previous year. This shows that the risk of occupational unsafety is still present in many dangerous job positions.
In the labor sector without contracts, the number of fatal accidents and the number of deaths both increased compared to 2024. The recording and statistics of labor accidents in this sector are still limited, due to the work of making records and reporting at the grassroots level not being fully implemented.
In addition, some sectors continue to record many fatal labor accidents such as construction, construction material production, textiles, mineral exploitation and electricity production. Common causes of accidents include traffic accidents, falls from heights, electric shocks and incidents related to machinery and equipment.
The report also shows that the work of statistics and reporting on labor accidents still has many limitations. In 2025, only about 17.52% of businesses reported on the situation of labor accidents, although it has increased compared to the previous year, it still does not fully reflect the reality.
The sending of labor accident investigation records from localities to the Central Government is still not complete and timely. The number of records received accounts for only about 10.73% of the total number of fatal labor accidents nationwide.
Some localities strictly implement reporting regulations, but in many places, the submission of dossiers is still slow or incomplete, causing difficulties for the work of summarizing, analyzing and evaluating the situation of occupational accidents at the national level.
