AI Exponsentially Increases Cybersecurity Risks
The technical system of the Department of Information Security (Ministry of Information and Communications) recorded the number of cyber attacks on information systems in Vietnam in the first 10 months of 2024 as 4,483, down more than 57% compared to the same period in 2023. Although the number of cyber attacks on systems in Vietnam has decreased, the sophistication and danger of the attack campaigns are considered to be increasing.
According to Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Bui Hoang Phuong, cyber attacks are continuously developing with increasing sophistication and complexity.
“Especially with the support of AI, the risks we face will increase exponentially. Therefore, all agencies and organizations need to continuously improve their information security capacity, proactively deploy information security solutions and maintain this work continuously,” Deputy Minister Bui Hoang Phuong emphasized.
Mr. Nguyen Van Thin - security expert of Chongluadao - said that in the period of AI boom, businesses are increasingly facing many risks of cyber attacks, causing serious impacts on operations, economic losses and reputation.
Mr. Thin analyzed that currently, not all organizations and businesses have the economic and human resources to apply AI to their operations. Therefore, many organizations and businesses prioritize choosing a unit that provides AI-related services.
“This puts organizations and businesses at risk,” said Mr. Thin. According to this security expert, when outsourcing, businesses may face security and privacy risks. Providing data to a third party can lead to the risk of information leakage or breach, especially when the third party does not have strong security measures or does not comply with data protection regulations.
When data is stored and processed by a third party, if the contract terms are unclear, data sharing or misuse may occur. In particular, if the AI service provider experiences a security incident (e.g., being attacked, information leaked), the organization hiring the service will also be affected because it may lose data or be hacked.
If a third party does not ensure the quality or authenticity of the input data used by the AI, the AI model may produce biased or inaccurate results. This can lead to incorrect decisions and negatively impact business results.
Implement customer protection solutions
Mr. Nguyen Quang Hoang - Director of Information Security Misa JSC - said that currently, SaaS (Software as a Service) is an outstanding solution to help businesses protect data. At Misa, the Misa Amis unified enterprise management platform is built according to the SaaS trend with advantages such as converged data center, automatic backup, 24/7 monitoring... Misa Amis flexibly connects departments and external partners, while ensuring effective information security to help businesses operate smoothly while remaining safe from cyber threats.
Misa also commits not to share customer information with any third party except when requested by competent state agencies.
“Being cautious in cyberspace and using SaaS software services from reputable suppliers are key for businesses to protect themselves against the increase in cyber attacks,” said Mr. Hoang.
Similarly, Mr. Pham Tuan Vu - Deputy Director of Technology of Hanel Joint Stock Company - said that currently, the unit is implementing periodic information security assessments to find and fix vulnerabilities.
