According to the report of the Statistics Office, the labor force, the number of people with jobs and the average monthly income of workers in the third quarter of 2025 all increased compared to the previous quarter and increased compared to the same period last year. The unemployment rate and unemployment rate decreased compared to the previous quarter and decreased compared to the same period last year. In the first 9 months of 2025, the labor force aged 15 and over was 53,100,000 people, an increase of 556,300 people compared to the same period last year; employed workers were 52,000,000 people, an increase of 552,300 people; the unemployment rate among working-age people was 2.22% and the unemployment rate among working-age people was 1.65%.
The rate of unemployed workers in Vietnam often fluctuates at 4.0%. This rate has increased rapidly since the first quarter of 2020 and reached a record high of 10.4% in the third quarter of 2021 due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the third quarter of 2025, the rate of unemployed workers is 3.4% (about 1,830,000 people).
The rate of workers who do not fully exploit the potential in the third quarter of 2025 in urban areas is 3.5% and in rural areas is 3.4%. Compared to the previous quarter, this ratio in urban areas decreased by 0.4 percentage points and in rural areas decreased by 0.5 percentage points.
In the first 9 months of 2025, the rate of unemployed workers was 3.7%, down 0.6 percentage points over the same period last year. Of which, urban areas are 3.6%, down 0.2 percentage points; rural areas are 3.8%, down 0.8 percentage points.
Workers with working needs but not meeting the job requirements (also known as unemployed workers) include unemployed people, unemployed people and a group of non-working people who are willing to work but do not find a job or have found a job but are not ready to work immediately. The rate of unemployed workers is the ratio of workers who have a need to work but are not fully met the job compared to the total number of workers who have a need to work in the economy.
