In Quang Yen town (Quang Ninh), the delegation of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor (VGCL) led by Ms. Thai Thu Xuong, Permanent Vice President of the VGCL, presented 1 billion VND to union members and workers in Quang Ninh province who suffered damage due to storm No. 3. They visited and presented gifts to 2 families of workers in difficult circumstances with a support level of 2 million VND/household, and supported union members and workers at a business that suffered heavy damage due to the storm with 10 million VND.
The delegation visited the family of Ms. Vu Thi Tham - a worker at Vega Ball Company (residing in Gieng Meo village, Tien An commune, Quang Yen town). The storm caused the roof of her family's house to be completely blown off, some walls to collapse, and the whole family is currently temporarily moving to the kitchen to live.
After inspecting the damage, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong shared the difficulties of the family, and requested the Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor to consider immediately building a union house for the family. At the same time, she affirmed that this was only the initial concern, and that the provincial, town and company unions should continue to pay attention and help so that the family can soon stabilize their lives.
The family of Ms. Dinh Thi Thoi - CTTV Company of Foxconn Group (residing in Hamlet 2, Song Khoai Commune, Quang Yen Town) has 5 members, 3 young children, including 1 disabled child. Storm No. 3 blew off the roof of the main house, kitchen, toilet, and pigsty. Ms. Thoi's husband fell while repairing the roof and is currently being treated at the hospital.
The working group shared the family's difficulties and encouraged the family to overcome the difficulties. The town's Labor Federation will continue to call on benefactors to continue helping the family.
The delegation visited and worked at Jinko Solar Vietnam Industrial Co., Ltd. (Song Khoai Industrial Park, Quang Yen town). According to the company's report, storm No. 3 caused severe damage to the company. The company is currently assessing the extent of the damage with the insurance company. The company currently has more than 4,000 workers, many jobs have not resumed due to damaged equipment.
In the spirit of sharing and understanding, Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Thai Thu Xuong hopes that the company will continue to repair and overcome the damage as soon as possible to resume production, depending on the conditions, continue to care for the spiritual life of the workers. Encouraging each worker to strive to overcome difficulties, Ms. Thai Thu Xuong affirmed that the trade union will always stand side by side with the workers so that they can contribute to the development of the business as well as the family economy.
The Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor also requested the Quang Ninh Provincial Confederation of Labor to continue to care for union members in difficult circumstances with specific, practical and timely actions. In addition, research and coordinate with the Confederation of Labor of the Northern mountainous provinces to support workers and laborers who suffered heavy losses from floods.
Previously, implementing Official Dispatch No. 2038/TLD-QHLD dated September 10, 2024 of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor on caring for and supporting union members and workers affected by storm No. 3, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor mobilized workers, civil servants, and workers nationwide to support compatriots affected and suffering losses of at least 1 day's salary. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor decided to spend from the union's financial resources to support union members and workers in some provinces that suffered heavy damage; established 5 working delegations of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor to directly visit union members and workers in localities that suffered heavy damage.
