Amazon Group announced that it will invest an additional 18 billion euros (equivalent to 21 billion USD) in Spain to expand its data center system and promote artificial intelligence (AI) innovation.
The new investment raises Amazon's total committed capital in this country to 33.7 billion euros.
The information was announced after a meeting between Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Mr. David Zapolsky, Director of Global Affairs and Legal Affairs of Amazon, on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
According to Mr. Zapolsky, the expansion plan will support up to 30,000 jobs by 2035, while making Spain Amazon's artificial intelligence center in Europe.
Previously last year, cloud computing giant Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced an investment of 15.7 billion euros in data centers in the Aragon region, northeastern Spain.
This project is expected to create an average of about 17,500 jobs per year in local businesses by 2033.
The acceleration of investment shows that Amazon continues to strengthen cloud and AI infrastructure in Europe, in the context of increasing demand for data processing and artificial intelligence applications.
