More than 200 technology experts, students and business leaders attended the workshop "AI Safety - Shaping Responsible Innovation" organized by FPT on the afternoon of December 5.
This is a special event when Professor Yoshua Bengio, one of the pioneering scientists in AI, comes to Vietnam for the first time. The conference also attracted more than 15,000 online followers, affirming the appeal of urgent content about artificial intelligence.
Shaping a Responsible AI Future
In his speech at the conference, Professor Yoshua Bengio emphasized: "AI needs to be developed with the goal of serving humans, not as systems capable of setting their own goals." He warned against building AIs with "survival instincts" or self-awareness, as this could lead to risks that spiral out of control.
According to him, technology developers need to ensure that AI is not only smarter but also safe and ethical. "We must clearly define the goals of AI, because the rapid development of technology is raising big questions about human responsibility," Professor Yoshua Bengio shared.
FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh agreed with this view and emphasized: "AI should be considered an ally, supporting humans, not a threat to take away jobs." He also encouraged young Vietnamese people to seize the opportunity to learn AI to compete in the global labor market.
AI is not taking away jobs, it is creating opportunities
The recent wave of layoffs in the technology industry has raised concerns about AI replacing workers. However, Professor Yoshua Bengio asserted: "AI is not only replacing but also creating new opportunities. By 2025, it is expected that there will be 12 million more jobs globally thanks to AI."
Research from McKinsey also shows that AI can create 20 to 50 million new jobs by 2030. Mr. Truong Gia Binh emphasized the importance of equipping oneself with knowledge of AI, data science, machine learning, and problem-solving skills to take advantage of this potential.
"Those who master AI will have a huge competitive advantage in the future. Old jobs may disappear, but new jobs will open up with unlimited potential," Mr. Binh affirmed.
FPT accompanies in the mission of developing ethical AI
Within the framework of the event, the VINASA AI Ethics Committee was officially launched. As one of the founding members, FPT is committed to complying with international standards and cooperating with leading researchers to build a safe and sustainable AI ecosystem.
“This committee is not only an important milestone for Vietnam’s technology industry, but also a testament to the long-term vision of responsible AI development,” said Mr. Truong Gia Binh.
With more than a decade of AI research, FPT has affirmed its leading position in Vietnam, cooperating with international partners such as the Mila AI Research Institute. This cooperation has promoted thousands of young Vietnamese people to access advanced AI knowledge, contribute to scientific works and apply AI in diverse fields such as education, healthcare, and energy.
