Windows Copilot is available as a separate application in Windows 11. Users can access this application from the taskbar on all apps and programs. It can also be enabled by clicking the Copilot button, located next to the search bar on the taskbar.
Windows Copilot uses natural language Query capabilities to provide customized answers to users' questions, similar to ChatGPT and Bing Chat. It can represent users in performing actions, such as changing Windows settings, starting playlists, or opening apps.
Windows Copilot can also summarize the content that the user is viewing in the application, rewrite it, or even explain that content. With this virtual assistant, users can ask it to rewrite, summarize, or explain content that was copied from one application and then paste a new version to another application.
Windows Copilot is built on the same foundation as Bing Chat, and Microsoft is allowing first- and third-party plugins to be integrated with it.
How to turn on Copilot on Windows 11
Currently, not all Windows insider users can test the Copilot feature as the new company is gradually rolling it out. However, if users cant wait, they can use a third-party tool to get the feature. Moreover, this is an early preview version, so not all of Copilot's features will be available immediately.
To be able to install Copilot, users need to run the Windows Insider version of Windows 11. Currently, this feature is only available in the dev channel ( Windows 11 build 23493). Users can do the following to test the Copilot virtual assistant:
Register for Windows 11 PC on this channel by opening the Windows 11 Settings application.
Open to Windows internal users and log in with a Microsoft Account, click the Start button
Link to Microsoft Account and select Developer Channel
Press Continue and follow the steps on the screen
Return to Windows Update and click the Update Check button.
After completing all the above procedures, the computer will download and install the new Windows 11 version with Copilot.
