The debate about AI is entering a tense phase as technology leaders continuously raise opposing views. In that context, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has publicly opposed the pessimistic arguments that AI will "destroy the world", warning that end-of-life scenarios are causing real negative impacts on society and the technology industry.
Mr. Jensen Huang said that the debate about AI in 2025 has turned into a battle of views. One side sees AI as a driving force for progress, productivity and economic growth, while the other side sees this technology as a real threat to humans.
Although acknowledging that AI needs to be developed cautiously and controlled, Nvidia CEO emphasized that constantly exaggerating extreme risks does not help the government, businesses or the public.
According to Mr. Huang, messages based on fear are distorting social awareness about AI, making investors and policymakers hesitant to support the development of systems that can help AI be safer, more reliable and useful.
When all discussions only revolve around the worst-case scenario, we will no longer have space to talk about how to make AI better," Huang argued.
Although not naming specifically, Jensen Huang said that some very respected figures in the AI industry have promoted science fiction-colored stories, drawing a vision of AI going beyond control and threatening the survival of humanity.
According to him, this approach only creates confusion and anxiety, instead of promoting a constructive dialogue on AI governance and application.
Nvidia CEO also expressed concern that some businesses may "manipulate regulations". He said that lobbying activities demanding tighter management do not always stem from the goal of protecting public interests.
In some cases, combining fear rhetoric with strict control requirements may shape policies in a direction that benefits a certain group of businesses, rather than serving broader social interests.
These views are put forward in the context of controversy surrounding the impact of AI on employment and the economy.
Previously, Mr. Huang opposed the assessment of Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, who warned that AI could replace up to half of low-level office jobs within 5 years.
Afterwards, Mr. Amodei argued that his point of view was misinterpreted, showing the sensitivity and complexity of the discussion on AI.
This division does not only exist between Nvidia and Anthropic. Many other technology leaders also call for changing the way society talks about AI.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella recently said that AI should be seen as a "consciousness-enhancing tool", helping people work more efficiently, instead of being a threat to creativity and intelligence.
Mr. Jensen Huang does not deny the risks of AI, but he warns that stories based on fear can be counterproductive.
According to him, the more effective way to manage the impact of AI is responsible, transparent development and balanced investment.
