While modern smartphone areas have seen tremendous progress, battery capacity is one area that has lagged behind.
However, this issue seems to be taking a positive turn as Samsung and Apple start developing new generations of batteries.
Now, Chinese manufacturers have gone one step further by adopting battery technology with a capacity higher than the usual 5,000 mAh standard. For example, the Nubia RedMagic 10 Pro is equipped with a 7,050 mAh battery but still retains the same thinness as its predecessor.
This trend is expected to become more popular this year and Samsung and Apple certainly don't want to be left behind.
Both companies are developing new batteries that will allow for increased capacity without making phones thicker. Slimness remains a key factor for Samsung and Apple, as both are expected to launch slimmer versions of their flagships, such as the iPhone 17 Air and Galaxy S25 Slim, aimed at consumers who prioritize aesthetics.
Samsung is said to have found a way to increase the silicon content in batteries without encountering problems such as battery swelling. However, there is no official launch date for this new battery from Samsung yet.
According to tech analyst Jukanlosreve, Apple is likely to roll out its new battery technology after 2026.
Based on the traditional trends of both, Samsung will probably introduce this type of battery sooner than Apple. Apple tends to be slower to adopt new technology because it always sticks to its own style.
Many users, including technology experts, have long supported the idea of increasing battery capacity, even willing to sacrifice the thinness of the phone. But if manufacturers do not accept to thicken the phone, then new battery technology is the big news to look forward to.
