This problem occurs when the smartphone goes into standby mode. Instead of saving battery, the iPhone consumes more power, reducing standby time. This is especially noticeable for people who do not charge their phones overnight.
Like other smartphones, the iPhone assumes that it will always be on and connected to the internet to support background services like “Find My iPhone.”
There are some ways to extend battery life such as limiting background services and using battery saving mode which can reduce the load on applications. However, this is only a temporary solution, not a permanent solution.
The problem appears to be with the latest version of iOS. Introduced at WWDC in June, iOS 18 was released alongside the iPhone 16 series. iPhone 16 users do not have the option to go back to the previous version. Older iPhone users who have upgraded to iOS 18 are also experiencing the same issue, to the same degree, suggesting it is a software-related issue.
Given the situation, Apple is expected to release a fix soon. The company often releases minor updates to iOS to fix issues, including rapid battery drain on older models. There is no official word yet on when the update will be released.
In the meantime, many iPhone users will have to pay attention to battery management to get through the day.
