The AI race between Microsoft and OpenAI heats up with two similar browsers

Microsoft launched the Edge upgrade with Copilot AI, turning this browser into a smart web browsing tool just a few days after OpenAI introduced Atlas.

After OpenAI introduced the Atlas browser, Microsoft announced a major update to Microsoft Edge, deeply integrating the Copilot AI assistant into the web browsing experience, turning this browser into a real AI browser.

According to Mr. Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, the Copilot mode in Edge is developing into a smart companion that can understand, summarize, analyze and act on behalf of users.

With user permission, Copilot can view opened tabs, compare information, fill in forms, and even book hotel rooms in the browser.

Previously, Copilot in Edge was released in July with basic features such as quick search on the new tab or voice navigation. However, this upgrade takes Copilot to new heights with two outstanding features:

- Actions: Allow AI to automatically fill in the form, performing operations directly on the web.

-Journeys: Follow and connect between tabs, helping users synthesize content throughout the web browsing process.

Notably, the announcement comes just two days after OpenAI launched the Atlas browser, which is described to have a nearly similar interface and philosophy. Both integrate AI chatbots into the new tab interface, supporting summarization and natural interaction.

Experts say this similarity is not accidental. Although Microsoft and OpenAI work closely together, they still compete fiercely in the field of field-based AI.

Atlas and Edge Copilot are both aiming for the same goal of redefining how people interact with the web, turning the browser into a smart workspace rather than just an access tool.

In terms of interface, Edge's Copilot has a darker background and follows the Windows design style, while the Atlas is more compact in macOS style.

But overall, the two products are so similar that it is difficult to distinguish, only different in the operating platform and the AI model behind.

The almost simultaneous appearance of these two AI browsers shows that the AI race between Microsoft and OpenAI is heating up day by day, and users will be the first beneficiaries when the web becomes smarter than ever.
