Promoting the position of a regional linkage center
After merging with Quang Nam province, Da Nang city became the newly created centrally-governed urban area with the largest area in Vietnam (11.859.59km2), population of more than 3 million people. The city possesses international-level conditions: 2 world heritages (Hoi An, My Son), 2 airports, 3 seaports, 1 international border gate, the Free Trade Zone has been established and the International Financial Center is under construction.
According to Da Nang City Party Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet: "The merger event not only expands administrative boundaries, but more importantly, it expands development space, creating opportunities for Da Nang to make a breakthrough, affirming the country's profound growth role."
Da Nang's economic scale is currently the largest in the Central Key Economic Zone, but GRDP in 2024 will only account for 2.39% of the country's GDP. The challenge is to move from assisted conditions to specific results - improving national and international competitiveness.
Ms. Tran Thi Thanh Tam, Director of the Da Nang Department of Finance, emphasized: "Da Nang is facing the opportunity to form an administrative - economic entities with a large enough scale, strong enough governance capacity, and high competitiveness to integrate deeply into the national and global value chain."
Reaching international standards with technology, infrastructure and human resources
In the period of 2025 - 2030, Da Nang focuses on six key areas: high-quality service tourism; logistics; high-tech industry; information technology, semiconductor microchips; high-tech agriculture, medicinal herbs, marine economy; and smart coastal urban chain.
However, the two institutional "pists" are the International Financial Center and the Da Nang Free Trade Zone. This is considered a new pillar to attract capital, technology, and high-quality human resources, putting Da Nang on the global financial - trade map.
Secretary of the City Party Committee Luong Nguyen Minh Triet affirmed that the International Financial Center and the Free Trade Zone will be "a new growth machine". Da Nang is determined to concretize specific mechanisms, making the city a strategic growth pole of the country.
From a management perspective, the city has established an executive agency of the International Financial Center, preparing infrastructure at Software Park No. 2, and training 300 staff, connecting overseas European intellectuals to prepare high-quality human resources.
In the short term, the Department of Finance emphasized the goal of disbursing 100% of public investment capital in 2025 (the Central Government assigned more than VND 15,900 billion), considering this an order, not an aspirational goal. At the same time, remove obstacles for businesses, promote the private economy as the main driving force.
In the long term, Da Nang focuses on science - technology, innovation, digital transformation, considering this a leading breakthrough for rapid and sustainable development.
