Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, called the car sharing service cyber Cab and described it as The Combination of Airbnb and Uber, creating a unique ride-hailing experience for users, The Verge reported.
In the company's latest earnings report, Tesla provided an overview of the expected launch of the mobile application. Accordingly, users will be able to request a self-driving vehicle via the application, similar to how they book a vehicle with the current Uber service.
The application will display a large button with "Call back" content, allowing users to activate calling a vehicle. A 3D map will display the route of the self-driving car to the pick-up point, creating an experience similar to booking a car with the Uber app.
During the waiting period, users can also adjust settings such as air conditioning in the vehicle as desired.
This feature is designed to bring convenience and a completely new calling experience to users. Elon Musk has also stressed that in the future, Tesla will operate a large fleet of autonomous vehicles, similar to the way Facebook and Uber work.
Vehicle buyers can let their vehicles run their own taxis
In addition, Elon Musk also said that part of the fleet will be owned by users. He also emphasized that users can add or reduce their vehicle to the fleet whenever they want, creating a unique car sharing model.
The Robotaxi-named ride-hailing feature in Tesla's app is expected to bring convenience and flexibility to users, while opening up the opportunity to make passive money for car owners.
Tesla's announcement of Robotaxi's plan comes after the company abandoned plans to produce an electric car model worth nearly $25,000.
Tesla also reported a sharp decline in auto sales in the first quarter of 2024, in the context of a not-so-good demand outlook for electric vehicles, while long-standing companies such as Toyota achieved higher sales. Tesla recorded a 8.5% decrease in global deliveries in the first quarter of 2024.
However, the implementation of autonomous vehicles in the US is still facing many challenges and difficulties due to concerns about safety standards both regulators and the public.
The service is still in development, but it could take a while for users to actually experience Tesla's car-ordering service.
