Google accelerates Chrome release cycle as competition from AI browsers increases

QUANG MINH |

Google has just announced that it will accelerate the release of Chrome versions.

In the context of AI-integrated browsers from companies such as OpenAI, Perplexity and many others seeking to gain a foothold in the market, Google said it will accelerate the release of Chrome versions.

Starting from September, Chrome will move from a 4-week release cycle to 2 weeks, according to a recent announcement by this technology corporation.

Chrome commits that each release will bring at least one milestone of improvement, such as increasing stability, improving speed or enhancing the user experience.

Officially, Google said that the release schedule change reflects the rapid development of the web platform, and also aims to ensure that developers can immediately access the latest tools and improvements.

However, this move takes place in the context that Chrome is starting to face potential competitors from AI model providers, companies that are looking to redefine the browser when many tasks are automated instead of users.

ChatGPT Atlas - OpenAI's web browser integrates an AI assistant and is testing various automation features. Meanwhile, Comet of Perplexity provides AI assistants for all users, along with tools such as email assistants and meeting schedulers for paid customers.

Faced with these emerging challenges, Google also quickly strengthened Gemini integration into Chrome, including many features to support the execution of automated tasks.

According to the plan, the new release schedule will start with different versions of Chrome on September 8, 2026 and apply to all platforms, including desktops, Android and iOS.
