Google tests AI features and many new improvements on Gboard

Google is testing a new AI feature on Gboard, helping users draft text quickly, enter symbols and improve the typing experience.

Google is testing a series of new features for Gboard, the default keyboard on most Android devices. Notable among them is the AI-powered Writing tool, which helps users improve or fine-tune text messages, while providing a unique reminder entry option for AI to understand users' intentions and create new content.

According to Android Authority, the latest beta version of Gboard also adds a flick keys to enter symbols feature, allowing users to quickly enter a link symbol with a button by tapping and dragging it down.

This feature is quite similar to the iPad's keyboard and may take some time to get used to, but it will make signaling more convenient when used proficiently.

In addition, Gboard is testing the hang display setting when entering a password, useful for compact Android phones such as Pixel 9, Samsung Galaxy S25 or OnePlus 13s, helping to save screen space while still ensuring convenience when typing a password.

Previously, earlier this year, Google tested round keys and pillow keys on Gboard, causing mixed reactions in the user community. Google has listened to feedback and allowed users to choose the wrong background shape.

In addition, Gboard has also been upgraded with many other details to improve the typing experience, from refining the layout to being compatible with small screen devices.

However, these features are still in the testing phase and may take time before they are officially released to all Android users.

With these improvements, Gboard continues to strengthen its position as one of the best keyboard apps on the Android platform, while expanding AI support capabilities to optimize the typing and text drafting experience for mobile users.
