The iOS 18 operating system was first introduced by Apple at the WWDC conference in June 2024 and officially released to users in September of the same year.
All iPhone models from XR/XS and above can install iOS 18. However, Apple combines all iOS 18 updates to do statistics at the same time, so it is unclear how many devices are running the latest iOS 18 version.
In the tablet segment, Apple said that 71% of eligible iPads have been upgraded to iPadOS 18.
Notably, among the iPhone models launched in the past 4 years, up to 88% are using iOS 18, up from 76% at the beginning of the year. For iPads, that number is 81%.
Apple is not announcing any statistics regarding the level of use of the Apple Intelligence feature.
Apple is expected to launch a new operating system version - rumored to be named iOS 26 early next week, at WWDC 2025.
The rapid increase in the iOS 18 update rate shows that Apple's ability to control the software ecosystem is still very effective, especially in the context of the company preparing to announce major changes at WWDC 2025.
Technology is expecting iOS 26 to bring strong advances in artificial intelligence, user interfaces and personalization capabilities, to affirm Apple's position in the face of increasingly fierce competition in the field of mobile AI.
