Apple is said to be preparing to launch two new MagSafe charger models, supporting up to 45 W, compatible with Qi 2.2 standards. This is a leap forward from the current 25 W on the iPhone 16 series.
The new MagSafe version with two codes in the system, A3502 and A3503, only differs in cable length (1 m and 2 m), while the magnetic Soda retains the familiar design.
With the Qi standard 2.2, MagSafe will have outstanding advantages such as:
Increase charging speed: Qi 2.2 supports a maximum charging speed of 50W. Qi 2 only supports a maximum of 15W.
Advanced magnetic charger: Qi 2.2 is enhanced with the ability to adjust magnetic cards from the start, ensuring the device will stick to the charger quickly and accurately.
Improved performance: When the device is properly adjusted and charged stably, there will be no unnecessary power outages or heat radiation.
Backward compatible: These standard support devices can work with older Qi 2 and Qi chargers, although they are still optimized for iPhone 17 models and future models.
branding compatible: As more and more brands adopt this standard, updated accessories will work with all device brands.
This is considered an important breakthrough as MagSafe is not only a popular accessory due to its slow charging speed, but will become a reliable fast charging method on Apple devices.
It could even be a direction for iPhone without charging ports, where MagSafe takes on the role of main charger.
Apple is expected to officially introduce the iPhone 17 model and new MagSafe accessories at its September 2025 event. Along with that, the Qi 2.2 standard is expected to be standardfied by WPC in the coming quarter, creating the premise for many other devices to simultaneously dock to support high-power wireless charging.
If this technology is deployed, iPhone users will not only be free from traditional charging cables but also benefit from faster and more flexible wireless charging than ever.
