On May 8, Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee and VNPT Group held a conference to evaluate the results of cooperation in the period 2021 - 2025, and signed a cooperation agreement on science, technology, innovation and digital transformation in the period 2026 - 2030.
According to assessments, after nearly 5 years of implementing the digital transformation cooperation program, the two sides have completed 76/81 key tasks, reaching a rate of 94%.
Many digital platforms have been deployed synchronously, contributing to improving the efficiency of management, administration and service for people and businesses in the area.

VNPT has invested heavily in telecommunications infrastructure in Lao Cai with hundreds of new BTS stations, 4G coverage to 100% of communes and wards, and deployed 54 5G stations.
More than 4,100 km of fiber optic cable has also been added, raising the total length of the province's cable network to over 30,800 km.
In particular, the "Digital Border Gate" platform at Kim Thanh Road International Border Gate No. II helps increase customs clearance capacity by 2-3 times, significantly reduce logistics costs and was honored at the Vietnam Digital Transformation Award in 2025.

In addition, online public service systems, 3-level online meetings, electronic document management, digital education, digital healthcare... continue to operate stably.
VNPT also organized nearly 200 training sessions on digital transformation for officials and people and supported localities with about 52 billion VND in equipment, software, and services in the period 2021 - 2025.
Mr. Huynh Quang Liem, General Director of VNPT Group, said that the results of cooperation in the past time are an important foundation for the two sides to continue implementing the new strategic agreement. VNPT is committed to accompanying Lao Cai in developing digital infrastructure, science and technology and comprehensive digital transformation.
Mr. Duong Quoc Huy, Secretary of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, highly appreciated VNPT's companionship with the locality in the past time. According to him, Lao Cai is aiming to become a trade connection center between Vietnam and the Southwest China region, in which digital transformation is identified as a key development driving force.
Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary requested departments and sectors to closely coordinate with VNPT to effectively implement cooperation contents, focusing on solving practical problems of the locality using technology and data.

According to the agreement for the period 2026 - 2030, the two sides will coordinate to expand digital infrastructure, develop 5G, Internet of Things (IoT), cloud computing, digital data and platforms serving digital government, digital economy, and digital society.
The goal by 2030 is that more than 90% of the province will be covered by 5G, 100% of industrial zones and clusters will have access to 5G and IoT.
The two sides also promote the application of AI and Big Data in fields such as tourism, healthcare, education, agriculture, logistics and smart border gates.
Notably, VNPT is researching the construction of a digital technology center in the Northwest region located in Lao Cai to create momentum for the digital economy development of the locality.
