Netflix has just introduced a new sub title option, starting from season 5 of the psychological series "You". Accordingly, viewers will be able to choose a sub beginning that only displays dialogue, instead of a full sub beginning for the deaf (SDH/CC) as before.
Unlike SDH/CC - which includes dialogue and sound description such as "ringing bells", " knocking on the door" or " Don't Stop Believing ringing in the player", the new option will completely remove these instructions, only keeping the dialogue between characters.
According to research, the purpose of adding subhead options that only display dialogue is to meet the needs of viewers who do not need to describe the sound but still want to follow the dialogue, such as foreign language learners, viewers in a quiet environment or simply do not like details such as subheadings "step footsteps", "round-up music".
At the same time, this also helps the film viewing experience become more neat and less dispersed, especially with films with rich sound but viewers do not need those captions.
In short, this is a step to personalize the viewing experience, allowing users to choose the sub beginning style that best suits their needs.
