Google's Android Show updates revolve around the interface design, Gemini virtual assistant, security, and device connectivity.
One of the outstanding changes is the new material 3 Expressive design language, bringing a more vivid look to Android 16 and Wear OS 6. With new letter types, colors and animation, the interface becomes more fun and friendly, especially aimed at young users.
In addition, users can customize more deeply by adding more tools to Quick Settings and integrating applications and widgets directly to the home screen. The Android 16 beta will start available on some Android devices from June.
Meanwhile, Gemini virtual assistant continues to expand its scope of activities, reaching platforms such as Wear OS, Google TV and Android Auto. Gemini not only takes on basic tasks such as making appointments or creating reminders, but also supports more flexible and natural language interaction.
On Android Auto, the Gemini Live feature allows users to chat directly with AI on any topic. On Google TV, Gemini can suggest favorite movies and shows, while answering questions such as actor information or content suitable for children.
In addition, Gemini will also appear on the Android XR mixed reality platform, although Google will reveal more details at the upcoming I/O.
In terms of security, Android 16 will be equipped with new features to enhance user safety. AI will be used to detect new forms of fraud such as fake messages for road toll collection. The Key Verifier feature helps verify the identity of contacts by exchanging encryption keys, and users can also provide access to support access when calling at a strange number.
Finally, Google introduced Find Hub, a new device tracking platform to replace Find My Device. Find Hub supports devices with ultra-wideband connectivity, allowing for more accurate positioning and taking advantage of satellite connectivity from the phone to find devices even without mobile waves.
The updates have just been announced as a stepping stone to the main event of Google I/O, promising to shape the future of the Android ecosystem in a more comprehensive and smarter way.
