Apple has made a lot of promises for iOS 18, but some of them are not yet available in the beta versions of iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1. Since most of the promised features are released “later this year,” users can expect them to appear in iOS 18.2 — assuming there are no delays.
In recent years, these updates have typically been released in December. So, features that weren't available in iOS 18 and 18.1 will likely appear in this version, as this will be the last chance to release it in 2024.
ChatGPT integration in Siri
In a recent exchange, CEO Tim Cook mentioned the release of Apple Intelligence features - a set of artificial intelligence tools in stages.
He said the ChatGPT integration will be rolled out “by the end of the calendar year.” Apple is also reportedly investing in OpenAI’s next funding round, indicating its confidence in the company’s technology.
Genmoji
Genmoji is a new feature introduced at the Apple Annual Developer Conference (WWDC 2024) and is part of the Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence system.
Genmoji will let you create custom emojis based on your text descriptions. While there's no specific information or confirmation from Apple about a release date, it's likely that the feature will be released later this year.
Redesigned Mail app
According to Apple's website, a new Mail app with a refreshed design and sorting is also expected to be released later this year.
Robot Vacuum Cleaner Support
Apple also said we can expect full support for robot vacuums later this year. The Home app on iOS will be able to control key robot vacuum features, such as power control, cleaning modes, vacuuming, mopping, and charging status. You’ll also be able to interact with the robot vacuum via Siri.
