These are famous unresolved problems. In an X post ( Twitter) that was later deleted, OpenAI Vice President Kevin Weil said that this was a "big step forward in the field of mathematics". However, toanist Thomas Bloom - manager of Erdos problems confirmed that this statement is "serious misunderstanding". According to him, the fact that a problem is listed as "open" only means that he has not found any documents to solve it, not that it still has no solution.

Bloom said that in fact, GPT-5 only found existing research related to these problems. OpenAI researcher Sebastien Bubeck, who praised the achievement, later admitted this, but said that the system finding the appropriate documents on its own is still a remarkable possibility.

Responding to the incident, Yann LeCun - Meta's chief AI scientist said that OpenAI is being enhanced by its own fans. Demis Hassabis - CEO of Google DeepMind called OpenAI's statement "an embarrassing thing" in the artificial intelligence research world.
