OpenAI has just launched a trial version of a new personal finance tool for ChatGPT Pro registrants in the US, marking a major step forward for the company in bringing artificial intelligence to support personal financial management.
According to OpenAI, the new feature allows users to directly connect bank accounts and invest with ChatGPT to receive financial analysis, track spending and make future financial plans.
To deploy this system, OpenAI partnered with the financial connection platform Plaid. Through Plaid, users can link accounts from more than 12,000 financial institutions, including many big names such as Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express and Capital One.
After completing the connection, ChatGPT will display a composite control panel with information such as portfolio performance, monthly spending, registered service packages being used and upcoming payments.
OpenAI said that in the near future, they plan to further support Intuit, the company behind famous financial software to expand data analysis capabilities.
At that time, ChatGPT can support users to assess financial impacts such as the impact of selling shares on taxes or the ability to get credit card approval.
The new product was announced just about a month after OpenAI acquired the team behind the personal finance startup Hiro.
The company said Hiro's expertise plays an important role in the development of the new financial instrument, although it did not disclose details about the level of participation.
According to OpenAI, there are currently more than 200 million users asking financial-related questions to ChatGPT every month. The company believes that GPT-5.5 has better contextual reasoning capabilities, suitable for complex financial questions requiring personal data analysis.
With the new feature, users can ask ChatGPT to answer questions such as: "Why have my spending increased recently?" or "How should I prepare financially to buy a house in the next 5 years?".
OpenAI says users can completely control their financial data. Connected accounts can be disconnected at any time in the "Settings" section.
After disconnecting, synchronous data will be deleted from ChatGPT within 30 days. Users can also view and delete financial transaction history directly in the data management section.
The new move shows that AI companies are accelerating the development of specialized tools for sensitive areas such as finance and healthcare.
Previously, both OpenAI and Anthropic had introduced AI solutions related to healthcare, while Perplexity recently launched its own financial research product.
Currently, OpenAI's personal finance tool is newly provided to ChatGPT Pro users on the web and iOS in the US. The company said it will continue to improve the product based on actual feedback before expanding to the Plus user group.
