Technically, Spotify's caching system already provides some offline backup. The app automatically saves some song, artist, and image data to your device to alleviate temporary internet outages and reduce bandwidth consumption.
The new offline backup feature makes cached songs available via a dedicated playlist.
Offline backups can be saved as playlists in your library. You can also filter by artist, mood, or genre.
This feature helps you track your listening habits and find songs you've listened to recently. This list automatically updates based on the songs you listen to, so it changes over time.
This feature will appear on the main page when there is no internet (but library access in playlists needs to be enabled).
Additionally, the feature won't work if Spotify's download feature is disabled. To enable it, go to the app's settings, select "Data & Offline Savings" (or "Storage" on iOS), and turn it on.
It's important to note that this feature will affect how Spotify uses its cache. Clearing your cache can free up a few gigabytes of space on your phone, but it will reduce the ability of Offline Backups and increase Spotify's mobile data usage.
Offline Backup will be coming to Android and iOS in the coming days, with support for Android Auto and CarPlay. This feature will require a paid subscription.
