Apple has made very small tweaks to the Apple Watch over the past few years , but the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Apple Watch is expected to bring some big changes.
Larger size
While there has been speculation that the Apple Watch Series 10 will switch to a flat display similar to the Ultra model, it looks like the glass will remain slightly curved as before.
The only big change is in the size of the new watches, the small 41mm model is expected to be dropped, replaced by a mid-size 46mm model and a new large 49mm version.
The larger size allows the company to pack in more features and will likely have a larger battery.
Other straps
Customers are hoping that the mid-size 46mm Apple Watch Series 10 model will be able to use the same bands as the 45mm Series 9. If not, this will be a shock for those who already have a collection of bands.
The new 49mm model is expected to use the same band size as the Apple Watch Ultra.
The Fineweed bracelet will likely be dropped due to poor sales and it looks like the Milanese Loop bracelet will be refreshed in titanium.
Performance and Features
Apple Watches have been fast enough for the past few years, but the new S10 chip is rumored to be not only faster, but also more efficient when it comes to AI compatibility.
Apple has been working on high blood pressure detection on the watch for years, and the feature is expected to come to full effect on the Series 10.
However, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said, "Apple has run into some serious hurdles" and the results of the feature have not been reliable enough, it's unclear whether Apple will introduce the feature with some limitations or if it will delay and try to perfect it for next year's version."
Another rumored health feature for the Apple Watch Series 10 is sleep apnea detection. However, that feature relies on blood oxygen levels, and Apple Watches in the US can't currently measure that because of a patent dispute with Masimo.
It's possible that Apple will find a legal solution and actually release the feature, or it could just announce it and delay its release until a future date.
Battery and charger
The Apple Watch series has had pretty much the same battery life since launch, lasting no more than a day (except for the Ultra model), so users have to remember to charge the device all the time. The new model will likely have a larger battery.
