The relationship between electric vehicles, charging stations and the public
The study "Deployment Model of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations and Its Impact on Promoting Electric Vehicles" published in August 2020 by Chinese scientists Shao-Chao Ma and Ying Fan showed that there is a positive relationship between public access and the number of charging stations with the development of electric vehicles.
Accordingly, attracting the understanding and attention of mass consumers can be an effective way to stimulate demand and promote the popularity of electric vehicles and charging stations, instead of relying solely on government incentive policies (such as many subsidies and tax exemptions).
To attract consumers’ attention, increasing the presence of electric vehicles and charging stations should be a top priority. With the advantage of size and the ability to install in many places, electric vehicle charging stations can be placed in restaurants, sports fields, schools instead of being limited to some commercial centers and residential areas.
Having a few charging stations on your premises can bring various benefits to the owner. This could be a new business combination trend in the future, as the number of electric vehicles around the world continues to increase.
Advantages of owning a charging station
The availability of charging stations has a major impact on the market share of electric vehicles. It is forecasted that by 2040, the world will need 290 million charging stations to support the growth of the electric vehicle fleet. Of these, home and office charging will account for the largest proportion.
In Europe today, home, workplace and commercial private charging stations account for 78% of total investment, as the majority of electric vehicles will be charged at home at night or in the office during the day.
According to research from EVgo, in the US, every minute spent charging a car is equivalent to spending an additional $1 on shopping. Installing EV charging stations at stores not only attracts these electric car drivers but also turns them into customers because charging times typically last from 15 to 45 minutes, enough time for them to shop and eat while waiting.
Additionally, up to 80% of electric vehicle drivers said that the presence of a charging station directly influenced their decision to shop at the store.
In addition, owning a charging station on the premises can help owners increase their competitiveness, easily build loyalty with electric vehicle users who will reap many benefits, because they are likely to return to shop many times.
Promotions, loyalty programs, and additional sales opportunities from charging stations help build lasting relationships with customers. Currently, in many developed countries, major brands such as Taco Bell, Subway, and Starbucks have installed electric vehicle charging stations at their locations, creating a trend of switching to clean fuel solutions.
It is easy to see that the popularity of electric vehicle charging stations brings many benefits to both businesses and consumers during a period when the number of electric vehicles appearing on the streets of Vietnam is growing explosively. Their presence not only helps attract people, stimulate the use of electric vehicles, but also brings revenue and advantages to businesses.
