According to Xinhua, two optical satellites Dongpo-13 and Dongpo-14, belonging to the batch of 6 satellites developed by two space technology companies MinoSpace and Huantian Wisdom (China), have transmitted high-resolution remote sensing images in just 1.5 hours after entering orbit on July 23.
According to Xinhua, this is a new record for the speed of taking photos and transmitting data of Chinese private satellite businesses, surpassing the achievement of less than 2 hours set in May.
Chang Wujun - Deputy General Director of MinoSpace - said that the shortened processing time shows that the enterprise's responsiveness and technological level in the field of commercial remote sensing are increasingly improved.
According to him, although remote sensing technology is applied in many fields such as agriculture, forestry, disaster response and urban planning, the speed of image provision is still an important factor determining the value of services.
In traditional systems, the process from receiving a request to having images usually takes many days. In emergencies such as floods or landslides, shortening processing time is important for decision-making.
Chang Wujun said that the company currently applies artificial intelligence (AI) right on the satellite to identify targets, detect anomalies and prioritize data transfer when the satellite is still operating in orbit.
This approach helps reduce the volume of raw data to be transmitted to the ground and processed, thereby providing information almost in real time, serving disaster surveillance, emergency response and fluctuation monitoring.
