This new feature is currently only available to YouTube Premium users who use an Android device to watch.
YouTube previously announced a conversational AI feature late last year, but has not provided further details since. The feature will allow users to ask questions about video content and receive answers before they finish watching.
YouTube has recently officially announced that users in the US will start seeing this tool on their devices. However, currently only YouTube Premium users have the opportunity to experience it and there is no information about whether the feature will be expanded to many other users in and outside the US.
The new AI feature appears quite subtly in the YouTube app. There will be a small dot added to the comment icon. Swiping left on the comment card will reveal a new card called “Ask.”
Users can tap on the entire card to open a new page just like the regular chatbot page. Additionally, tapping on “Video Summary” will automatically send a command to the chatbot, which will generate a summary from YouTube’s AI model.
YouTube hasn't made it clear what specific model it's using, but it's likely powered by Gemini — an artificial intelligence tool developed by Google.
