Reasons why you should not eat too much protein
A high-protein diet has long been considered an ideal "companion" for bodybuilders, helping to build muscle and recover after exercise.
However, few people expect that consuming too much protein, especially from animal sources, can bring worrying side effects such as increasing the risk of urinary tract infections (UTIs).
Dr. Arun Rathi, a urologist at CARE Hospital (Banjara Hills, India), shared with indianexpress that a diet high in animal protein can make urine more acidic, thereby creating favorable conditions for disease-causing bacteria to grow.
A diet rich in protein, especially animal protein, can increase the risk of UTI due to changes in urine pH, Rathi warned.
However, protein is not the only guest. Factors such as poor hygiene, lack of water or sensitive geology can also contribute to the disease.
Solutions
Dr. Rathi recommends that adults consume about 0.8 grams of protein per kg of weight per day. For people with a history of UTI, protein intake should be strictly controlled, while adding green vegetables, fruits and drinking enough water every day to help dilute urine and prevent bacteria from growing.
In addition, people prone to UTI should limit certain foods that can make the condition worse, such as:
- caffeine-rich foods: Coffee, tea, energy drinks.
- Spicy foods: Dishes rich in chili or strong spices.
- Foods high in sugar: Candy, soft drinks, desserts.
- Low-fiber foods and processed foods.
In contrast, some foods that can help prevent UTI include:
- Berries (such as blueberries, cranberries) and their juices.
- Probiotic-rich foods such as yogurt, dairy butter.
- Green leafy vegetables ( Spinach, cabbage), fruits rich in vitamin C such as oranges, pineapples.
- Foods with a lot of water such as cucumber, melon.
Building a scientific and balanced diet not only supports fitness goals but is also a key factor in maintaining comprehensive health, including the urinary system.
