Eating habits increase the risk of fatty liver

Quang Minh |

The habit of regularly drinking sweets, saturated fat, and red meat can increase the risk of fatty liver.

Regularly drink soft drinks, milk tea and sugary drinks

This is one of the most notable eating habits for the risk of fatty liver. Sugar supplements, especially fructose, when consumed excessively can promote fat production in the liver and increase fat accumulation in this organ.

Eat more super processed foods

A familiar meal including instant noodles, sausages, processed meat, pastries, french fries, fast food and packaged dishes can make the portion high in energy but poor in fiber.

A diet high in processed foods often provides large amounts of free sugar, sodium and unhealthy fats, and is also associated with adverse health outcomes.

Eating too much saturated fat and fried foods

Not all fats have the same effect. Fat is a necessary nutrient, but regularly eating too much saturated and trans fat is not beneficial for metabolic health.

Reduce saturated fat and replace it with a diet rich in whole foods, vegetables, beans, whole grains, fish and suitable sources of unsaturated fat.

Regularly eat a lot of red meat and processed meat

The habit of eating too much red meat, especially processed meat, also needs to be considered in the overall picture of liver health.

However, it does not mean that meat must be completely removed from the menu. The problem lies in eating too much, too often and replacing vegetables, beans, fish or other protein sources with foods rich in saturated fat and processed meat.

Eating too much, often having excess energy

A seemingly simple but very important habit is to regularly eat beyond the body's energy needs. Overeating, eating a lot of energy-rich foods or constantly snacking can lead to weight gain and obesity - important risk factors of metabolic disorders (MASLD).

A healthy diet, controlled portion sizes, and maintained appropriate weight can help prevent fatty liver. For people who have had the disease and are overweight or obese, gradual weight loss is often an important part of treatment.
