Fruits
Fruits such as apples, strawberries, oranges, cherries... are very rich in vitamins and antioxidants. In particular, cherries also help reduce swelling and inflammation, support lowering blood uric acid thanks to being rich in vitamin C, beta-carotene and anthocyanins. Patients should supplement with fruits daily to increase resistance and effectively control gout.
Foods rich in vitamin C
Vitamin C plays an important role in reducing uric acid levels, anti-inflammatory and protecting blood vessels. Foods rich in vitamin C include: guava, pineapple, cauliflower, bell peppers... However, it should be noted that vitamin C should not be supplemented in too high doses because it can cause nausea, kidney stones or hinder the uric acid excretion process.
White meat
Unlike red meat, white meat such as chicken breast or river fish (snakehead fish, perch, tilapia) contains good protein but low in purines. Patients can eat about 110 - 170g/day to ensure nutrition without excessively increasing uric acid.
Olive oil and vegetable oil
Vegetable oils, especially olive oil, contain many unsaturated fatty acids, which have anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects on joints. Patients should use them for processing or mixing salads, avoid frying and stir-frying at high temperatures to avoid losing nutritional value.
Eggs
Eggs are a source of protein with low purines, rich in calcium and essential micronutrients. This is a safe food for gout patients, which can be used instead of red meat in some meals while still ensuring enough nutrients.
Vegetables
Vegetables are a rich source of fiber, vitamins and minerals, supporting digestion and reducing the risk of inflammation. Patients should eat a variety of green vegetables such as bok choy, water spinach, zucchini, eggplant, potatoes... to improve overall health.
Whole grains
Oats, brown rice, and barley provide a lot of fiber and complex carbohydrates, helping to stabilize blood sugar, support weight control and reduce inflammation in joints. These are healthy foods that should be on the menu of gout patients.
Drink enough water
Water plays a very important role in excreting uric acid through urine. Patients should drink 2 - 2.5 liters of water per day, prioritizing filtered water and non-carbonated alkaline mineral water to limit the risk of kidney stones.
