The incident just happened on a busy highway in Chachoengsao province (Thailand). An elephant male blocked the road and searched for newly harvested sugarcane trees on trucks.
Mr. Arnie Banpho, an eyewitness, recounted: "It was a giant animal, so no one dared to come close enough to chase it back into the forest.
Cars had to slowly find a way to get through the elephant, causing traffic congestion."
It is known that this elephant stood on the road for 2 hours and blocked 12 vehicles. Then it returns to the forest when it is dark.
Mr. Kovit Boonphanuk, head of the Wild Elephant Protection Center in Khao Ang Rue Nai, said: "The owls in this area are friendly and never harm anyone. Maybe at that time, the elephant just wanted to find food. This is just a rare situation, when an elephant blocks many vehicles and refuses to leave.
We want to recommend that anyone who is driving and meets an elephant should not blow the whistle or scream to threaten it. Let the elephants continue the things they are doing. Elephants often follow the flock and may have other cows nearby."
