American photographer Gordon Donovan has captured these special photos at Etosha National Park in Namibia, when a female lion in a swallow was trying to protect its young female equivalent.
Before that, its child was killed by a male lion. The photos taken by Donovan show the lion seemingly accepting the goose as its adopted child.
The female lion licks its inner lion, playing with it, and protects the burnt animal from other lions.
Mr. Donovan said: It was a strange, but wonderful image. When I saw the lion catching its prey, I waited for the scene where it would kill its prey. But that did not happen. Instead, the male lion licked the female goose.
That is the mystery of nature, when we cannot know in advance what will happen next.
The lions then protected their " adopted child" from other lions hunting for prey, Donovan said. He had been following the incident for more than 2 hours.
