Lam Dong preserves national culture associated with sustainable tourism development

Many festivals and traditional art forms of ethnic minorities are restored, contributing to promoting community tourism in Lam Dong.

In recent years, Lam Dong province has implemented many programs and projects to preserve and promote the traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities, while combining community tourism development in a sustainable direction.

Activities contribute to preserving cultural identity, while promoting socio-economic development in the locality.

According to the local Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the period 2021 - 2025 recorded many positive changes in people's awareness of the role of national cultural preservation.

In the past time, localities in Lam Dong, Binh Thuan and Dak Nong before the merger have participated in many cultural, sports and tourism events for ethnic minorities organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Notably, there is the Festival of Folk Performances of Culture of Ethnic Groups in the Truong Son - Central Highlands region, the Festival of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ethnic Groups in the Central Highlands region, the Gia Lai Gong Festival or the Festival of Then Singing and Tính Instrument Art of the Tay, Nung, and Thai ethnic groups.

In addition, mobile propaganda activities, art performances and film screenings serving remote and isolated areas continue to be maintained regularly.

Notably, the Project "Preserving and promoting the values of folk songs, folk dances, and folk music of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development in the period 2021 - 2030" has created many positive results in the conservation of intangible cultural heritage.

Many traditional festivals of ethnic minorities in Lam Dong are restored and promoted such as the Nho Phu Festival (praying for harvests), the Nho Dong Festival (praying for rain), the Nho R'he Festival and the Nho Lir bong Festival celebrating new rice.

The locality also opened 31 classes to teach ethnic musical instruments to youth; organized gong and chieng classes for the K'Ho, Ma, and Churu people; established many folk cultural clubs and supported activities for 131 traditional art troupes in remote and isolated areas.

In parallel with cultural preservation, folk sports such as crossbow shooting, bamboo shooters, and stilt walking continue to be maintained in traditional festivals and competitions. In particular, Lam Dong is a locality selected to research, preserve and develop stilt walking and bamboo shooters of ethnic minorities in 2026.

Currently, many community tourism models have been formed such as Dung K'Si village, K'Long village, Dao ethnic cultural village, Mong ethnic cultural village or Cham cultural community tourism model.

Many traditional festivals such as the gong festival, Pongour waterfall festival, the stream god worshiping ceremony or the new rice celebration of the K'Ho, M'Nong, Chu Ru, and Ma people are also gradually becoming unique cultural tourism products, creating a unique mark for local tourism.

In the period 2026 - 2035, the locality orients to continue to organize gong and chieng cultural festivals, ethnic minority cultural festivals; develop cultural tourism into a key product associated with heritage preservation; and at the same time promote the application of digital transformation in tourism promotion and organization of cultural activities.
