The project of 3 Khmer literacy classrooms worth 1.5 billion VND was started at Dia Muong Pagoda, Phuoc Long commune, Ca Mau.

On September 10, Phuoc Long Commune People's Committee, Ca Mau coordinated with the Tuong Nguyen Pagoda Charity Association (Ho Chi Minh City) to organize the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of 3 classrooms in the campus of Dia Muong Pagoda, Vinh Loc hamlet.

The project has a total area of more than 260m2, including 3 classrooms, invested with tables, chairs, and school supplies. The total cost of 1.5 billion VND is sponsored by Venerable Thich Minh Phu, Member of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Chairman of the Tuong Nguyen Pagoda Charity Association, through Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuy, Chairwoman of the Can Tho City Hometown Association in Ho Chi Minh City, mobilizing Vietnam Gas Corporation under the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group.

Phuoc Long commune currently has nearly 2,650 Khmer people, accounting for 5.57% of the population. In recent years, Khmer literacy classes in the area have been maintained during the summer, but facilities and equipment serving teaching are still limited.

The construction of 3 new classrooms at Dia Muong Pagoda will create conditions for monks and Khmer children to learn Khmer script, Bali script, and canons in a more spacious environment. This is also a place to contribute to maintaining the transmission of writing, canons, and traditional cultural values of the Khmer people to the younger generation.

Venerable Thich Minh Phu said that the project not only aims to improve learning conditions for Khmer children but also contributes to fostering pride and responsibility in preserving national culture.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuy said that connecting and mobilizing the construction of works at Dia Muong Pagoda is a meaningful activity for Phuoc Long homeland, contributing to improving teaching conditions and creating more space for Khmer children to access writing and traditional culture.
