According to the latest low pressure news from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), tropical depression Penha (Philippines name Basyang, typhoon No. 2 according to Japanese classification) is currently located about 674 km southeast of Manila, moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of about 20 km/h.
The highest sea waves recorded were about 4.6 m, causing certain impacts on maritime activities and marine tourism.
Wind intensity is only maintained around the weak tropical depression level, with maximum winds of about 55 km/h, before it is likely to gradually dissipate at sea in the next 36 hours.
Typhoon Penha previously made landfall in the Surigao del Sur region, Philippines; then made landfall for the second time in Bohol in the Central Visayas region at the tropical depression level.
Current forecast models are relatively consistent in terms of trajectory and intensity, showing that the tropical depression is no longer at risk of strengthening again into a storm.
Due to the impact of increased cold air, the tropical depression will continue to weaken into a low pressure area when entering the East Sea.
However, localized heavy rain, gusts of wind and rough seas may still occur in some coastal and island areas of the Philippines in a short time.
Tourists who are or are about to travel to the Philippines, especially coastal and island destinations, are advised to closely monitor weather forecasts, limit activities at sea when waves are still high, and proactively adjust travel schedules to ensure safety.
Meanwhile, in the East Sea, due to the influence of cold air, from February 7th, the Gulf of Tonkin will have gradually strengthened Northeast winds from level 5 to level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9, strong rough seas, waves 2.0-3.0 m high. The North East Sea area (including Hoang Sa) from the afternoon of February 7th will have strong Northeast winds of level 7, gusts of level 8-9, waves 4.0-6.0 m high.
From the night of February 7th, the sea area from South Quang Tri to Dak Lak will have strong Northeast winds at level 6, gusts at level 7, waves 2.0-4.0 m high.
From February 8th, the sea area from Khanh Hoa to Ca Mau, the area between the East Sea and the Southwest of the East Sea (including the West of Truong Sa) will have strong Northeast winds at level 6-7, gusts at level 8-9, waves 3.0-5.0 m high.
