Forecast of the possibility of a tropical depression near the East Sea strengthening into a storm

Dương Đông |

Tropical depression near the East Sea weakens but continues to cause heavy thunderstorms.

According to the latest low pressure news from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC), tropical depression Penha (Philippines name Basyang, typhoon No. 2 as named by Japan) is currently located about 594 km south-southeast of Manila (Philippines).

In the past 6 hours, this tropical depression has moved in a west-northwest direction at a speed of about 17 km/h. The largest sea waves recorded around the center of the tropical depression reached about 3.7 m.

According to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric Administration (PAGASA), at 7:00 PM on February 6th, the center of the Basyang tropical depression was located in the coastal waters of Dalaguete, Cebu, with the strongest wind near the center being about 55 km/h, gusting to 75 km/h. The low pressure is moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of about 10 km/h.

It is forecast that the tropical depression is likely to gradually weaken into a low pressure area and dissipate at sea, with no signs of strengthening into a storm or directly approaching the East Sea.

In addition, increased cold air in the East Sea makes the system only a low pressure trough for the next 24 hours.

However, PAGASA forecasts that low pressure Basyang may continue to cause localized heavy rain, strong winds and rough seas in the coastal areas of the Philippines. Sea waves in some areas may be 2-3.5 m high, posing a danger to small boats, especially marine tourists and fishing boats.

Although the low pressure is unlikely to strengthen into a storm and does not directly enter the East Sea, the circulation of this system combined with increased cold air may cause rough seas and large waves in many sea areas around the Philippines and nearby waters.

Tourists planning to travel by sea, participate in island tours, diving or boat tours in the Philippines and the area near the East Sea need to closely monitor weather reports, limit going out to sea when there is a rough seas warning. Travel agencies, high-speed trains and sea and island tours can adjust their schedules to ensure safety.

The meteorological agency recommends that people and tourists follow the instructions of local authorities, especially in coastal areas, islands and low-lying areas at risk of heavy rain and strong winds.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, strong cold air is continuing to move southward. The North has rain in some places, the common temperature is 21-24 degrees Celsius.

Near dawn and February 7th, the North East Sea area (including the Hoang Sa special zone) will gradually have strong northeast winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9; strong rough seas. Sea waves are high from 4.0 to 6.0m.

On February 7th, in the Gulf of Tonkin, from the afternoon, the Northeast wind gradually strengthened to level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7; rough seas. Sea waves are 2.0 to 3.0m high.

In addition, the sea area southeast of the Central East Sea and the sea area east of the Southern East Sea have scattered showers and thunderstorms. In thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.

On the night of February 7th and February 8th, the North East Sea area (including the Hoang Sa special zone) will have strong Northeast winds at level 7, especially the northeast sea area at times level 8, gusting at level 9-10; strong sea waves, waves from 4.0 to 6.0m high.

All ships operating in the above areas are at high risk of being affected by strong winds and large waves.
