Hanoi - The nostalgic Tet photos of the past are meticulously cared for from costumes, accessories to settings and shooting techniques... to bring realistic frames.

The photo set "Tet in the subsidy period" was taken in an old space in a corner of Quang An flower market. A group of young people recreated the scene of everyone happily shopping in the chilly weather in the North like in old days.
The Northern rural market is recreated through the moment of the footsteps of the elderly excitedly shopping for Tet, with images of green banh chung, peach branches, kumquat trees...
In the hurried pace of life today, we choose to return to those very old Tet days. Those images are simple but very warm. Every year, we build new ideas but still consistently follow the trend of recounting old stories, old Tet and traditional values," shared Mr. Hoang Anh Hien - owner of Calica Wedding photo studio.

To create this photo set, the author mobilized nearly 30 members, with about a month from the day of brainstorming the idea to the day of shooting.
The biggest difficulty in the process of taking the photo set "Tet in the subsidy period" was borrowing and buying costumes.

Each member in the photo set had to dress like their grandparents in the old days, with outfits such as velvet shirts, sweaters, cotton coats... to crow beak scarves, Ushanka hats from the old Soviet Union, and shoes.

The group of young people prepare accessories and costumes by referring to archival images online and asking directly to grandparents in the family to ensure accuracy in every detail such as bicycles, shopping carts, Tet flower displays...

The crew also used a very old travel camera, currently worth only about 1-2 million VND - with the desire to create image quality imbued with the Tet atmosphere of the old days.

On the day of the photoshoot, the crew woke up at 3 am to put on makeup, in order to express the image of old grandparents in the most realistic way.

Photo locations include Quang Ba flower market, Dong Xuan market and Hoan Kiem Lake. These are all familiar Tet shopping and Tet play spots on the Hanoi tourism map of the past and present.
