On January 19, information from Phu Quoc International Airport said that recently the airport welcomed the number of international flights arriving, setting an unprecedented record.
Specifically, on January 17, Phu Quoc International Airport welcomed 47 international flights, the highest ever. Previously, on January 3, the airport set a record with 46 international flights/day. The frequency was maintained continuously and stably throughout January 2026, showing a good growth trend.
According to statistics from Phu Quoc International Airport, from January 1, 2026, the port welcomed 734 international flights. Meanwhile, compared to the same period in 2025, the port welcomed 521 international flights, reaching 33 flights on the highest day. Thus, the number of international flights to Phu Quoc pearl island grew by more than 40%.
International flights to Phu Quoc in January 2026 are spread across many important markets such as South Korea, China, Thailand, Kazakhstan, Central Asia and Northeast Asia.
An Giang Department of Tourism said that from now until the Lunar New Year 2026, the number of visitors to Phu Quoc is very large, and many accommodation establishments may be "out of rooms". Many travel businesses have to buy rooms in advance to proactively welcome large groups of visitors during peak times.
The Department of Tourism has issued documents directing and calling on accommodation establishments and travel businesses to build appropriate tourism stimulus packages, and at the same time promote training and improve the quality of human resources, in order to better meet the needs of serving tourists in the coming time.
Phu Quoc International Airport currently has a capacity of 4 million passengers/year. But in fact, since 2024, the airport has been overloaded when serving more than 4.1 million passengers and in 2025 it exploded with nearly 5.9 million passengers.
From the beginning of 2026, Sun Group officially took over operation and invested in upgrading and expanding the port to increase service capacity to 20 million passengers/year before APEC 2027. The project is oriented to become the world's leading modern international airport.
